Accompanied by Mexico’s Ambassador to Ireland, Carolina Zaragoza Flores
DUBLIN, IRELAND – With the goal of promoting foreign investment in Baja California and boosting business opportunities to create more and better jobs, the Secretariat of Economy and Innovation (SEI), as part of ProBaja Trade & Investment, is conducting a trade mission in Ireland and Germany, reported Rodolfo Andrade Pelayo, Undersecretary for Investment Management.
The SEI official explained that among the opportunities Ireland offers Baja California—a country leading in software development, biotechnology, and agri-tech—is the development of agri-technology and food processing. This would help meet the needs of emerging municipalities, leverage the state’s agricultural and livestock products, and support the training of advanced talent.
“We appreciate the guidance and support of Mexico’s Ambassador to Ireland, Carolina Zaragoza Flores, and the Head of the Embassy’s Economic and Political Affairs Office, Tomás Olvera López, who participated in the visit to Kerry Group, one of Ireland’s leading companies in food processing, using biotechnology to make products more nutritious for human consumption.
Subsequently, the delegation visited Enterprise Ireland, the government business development agency committed to the growth and expansion of Irish companies to strengthen cooperation ties. At the Embassy, they also met with representatives from Sabanero Cheese, a cheese producer in Galway interested in visiting Baja California, and EZ Air, a company specializing in aircraft cabin parts manufacturing,” Andrade Pelayo detailed.
On the second day, the delegation visited Global Dimplex, a company specializing in the manufacture of heating and cooling systems, interested in investing in Mexico. They also met with the legal firm Gary McSharry, which expressed interest in supporting the establishment of companies in Baja California, California, and the western United States.
As part of ProBaja, an alliance composed of the economic promotion agencies of Tijuana, Tecate, Ensenada, and Mexicali, attendees included Mario Peregrina, President of the Ensenada Economic Development Commission (Ensenada EDC), and Ana Paula Corona, Director of Investment Promotion at SEI.
Currently, Ireland ranks as the eighth largest investor in Baja California worldwide, with investments in subsectors such as paper industry (pulp, paper, and cardboard), non-metallic mineral products, and metallic products including hardware and locks.
Andrade Pelayo highlighted that this trade mission is part of commitments made at the Ireland-Latin America Economic and Business Forum 2023 and will continue in Germany with visits to the “Electronica” trade fair, one of the world’s largest, and “MEDICA,” focused on technology, medical devices, digital health, and physiotechnology—both industries considered strategic for Baja California.
