ProBaja and SEI BC Drive Foreign Investment in Strategic Industries from Germany at MEDICA 2024

Currently, the medical industry in the state generates more than 85,000 jobs, benefiting families in Baja California.

GERMANY – As part of the trade mission to Ireland and Germany, ProBaja Trade & Investment and the Secretariat of Economy and Innovation (SEI) participated in the “MEDICA 2024” forum to promote foreign investment in strategic industries for Baja California, including biotechnology and medical devices, advanced electronics, semiconductors, and specialized talent, reported Rodolfo Andrade Pelayo, Undersecretary for Investment Management.

The SEI official highlighted that Baja California’s presence at the world’s leading healthcare and medical technology trade fair included a dedicated exhibition stand showcasing the state’s capabilities in medical biotechnology, engineering, and design. The stand also highlighted investment opportunities and competitive advantages offered by the region’s logistics, infrastructure, innovation, and highly skilled workforce.

As part of ProBaja, an alliance composed of the economic promotion agencies of Tijuana, Tecate, Ensenada, and Mexicali, attendees included Lorelei Gudiño, Coordinator of the Ensenada Economic Development Commission (Ensenada EDC); Alma López, Coordinator of Economic Promotion for Mexicali (Mexicali EDC); representatives from Grupo Prodensa and Grupo PIMSA; and Ana Paula Corona, Director of Investment Promotion at SEI.

Currently, Baja California is home to 102 companies engaged in the manufacturing of medical devices, hearing aids, prescription and non-prescription lenses, heart valves, wheelchairs, lab coats, face masks, and other medical supplies, generating over 85,000 jobs that benefit local families.

“MEDICA” is the world’s leading trade fair for the medical sector, showcasing the latest innovations in medical technology, imaging diagnostics, information technologies, laboratory and diagnostic equipment, physiotherapy devices, orthopedic technology, and medical products and services. The event features over 6,100 exhibitors from 69 countries and attracts visitors from around the globe.
